Canada Learning Code’s past work with teachers
At Canada Learning Code, we have long been advocates for integrating computer science education into the classroom, ensuring it is done equitably across demographics and geographies. Although 9 in 10 Canadians believe it is important to learn computer science, many students still do not have the opportunity to do so for a variety of reasons. To address this, in 2020 we led the development of the final K-12 Computer Science framework, which served as a guide for supporting teachers through coding education over the following three years.
Our 6th annual professional development conference for teachers, TeacherCon, resulted in equipping over 3,000 educators, like you, with the skills to bring coding into your classrooms. Additionally, we engaged over 32,000 students and teachers during our annual Canada Learning Code Week, made extra special by evolving Emoji World, featuring a climate-focused theme in its final year It grew so big that even Trudeau knew about it 😉
We’re proud to say that computer science is now more integrated into curriculums all over Canada, with teachers and school boards able to lean on the network of organizations that have been and continue to be committed to this work. Digital Moment is one of those incredible organizations.
We are grateful to have been supported by the Government of Canada through CanCode, partners such as Scotiabank, Georgian Partners, Amazon Future Engineer, Microsoft, individual donors and other supporters who have made our educator and youth programs possible over the past decade.
What’s next for you with Canada Learning Code?
Canada Learning Code is evolving, and you might be evolving with it. Our focus for the foreseeable future is around supporting early to mid-career professionals, including educators, through the Career Collective. We encourage you to check it out if you’re interested in continued professional development and upskilling with us.
