VANCOUVER, BC – Canada Learning Code and BrainStation are showcasing their career-changing upskilling program in Vancouver. Today, local leaders and community members gathered at BrainStation headquarters to highlight Code to Career in the region, a national training initiative that provides access to subsidized BrainStation software engineering bootcamps with a focus on supporting people from marginalized communities who continue to be underrepresented in tech.
The gathering of local community builders and current and aspiring tech professionals shone a spotlight on the dynamic intersection of tech growth and diversity in Vancouver. Attendees learned about the new program and how it can contribute to the local tech ecosystem.
“Vancouver’s thriving tech sector has spawned leading-edge innovators in digital media, life sciences, AI, and beyond.” said Kelsey Heyd, Senior Manager, Community Success and Partnerships, Canada Learning Code. “As it takes on a growing share of the global tech industry, Vancouver will need a workforce with the tech skills to meet the moment. The Code to Career program will equip marginalized groups, who are underrepresented in tech, with a chance to level up their careers and help to build the local economy.”
The event included a panel discussion examining the program as well as the role, impact, and opportunity that tech growth has in Vancouver, with a focus on job readiness and diversity. The panel included Microsoft’s Pamela Saunders and Google’s Shika Soni, Simply Sweet Games’ Carina Com, and BrainStation’s Associate Director of Education Experience, Mel Greene.
About Code To Career
The Code to Career initiative is grounded in the understanding that a more just and equitable future for technology in Canada means building programming that supports, empowers, and equips all learners who historically have been—and continue to be—underrepresented in tech.

The program is powered by Canada Learning Code and BrainStation, and funded by Upskill Canada [powered by Palette Skills] and the Government of Canada. Code to Career aims to train 800 people in Canada through Software Engineering Bootcamps.
