Virtual Mentors
Virtual Mentors
Having Mentors can really impact the virtual experience. Typically, the Mentor is still in charge of supporting learners. In the virtual world, that means: monitoring the chat, leading a breakout room, and running a movement break, icebreaker for the Party Room, or a 20/20/20.
Optional: Meeting Your Mentors Before Experience
It is optional to get your virtual team together ahead of the workshop. You as the Producer (Chapter Lead) are responsible for sourcing Mentors for your experience. It is expected that all parties commit to signing into the Zoom meeting 30 minutes prior to the workshop start, including Mentors. If you are meeting with the Mentors ahead of time, share the updated ROS template so they know the timing of the workshop. Mentors have participated in a training session with Cael & Wilson. As well, they have their own training course.
Mentors Joining an LLC Experience
Mentors have been encouraged to register as a learner for a Code Mobile virtual Ladies Learning Code workshop.
Mentor Prep
Mentors must complete virtual training before participating in a virtual workshop. Once they complete training, they will be sent a Triton background check. After submitting the Triton background check to a CSM, only then will a Mentor be given a registration code to register for a virtual experience from our website or Eventbrite.
Mentor Huddle
This is run by the Instructor, however, it is good to be prepared if the Instructor is unsure of how to run a Mentor Huddle. The main objective is to appreciate the Mentors, make them feel confident, and give them an opportunity to ask questions. The Mentor Huddle will take place at least 30 minutes before the experience starts, and can be 5 – 10 minutes of your setup time before the experience. Here is an example of a Mentor Huddle for Adults.
Things to cover in the Mentor Huddle:
- Introductions (2-3 minutes)
- Experience Overview (3-5 minutes)
- Schedule of the day
- Role of team members
- Any last minute content or tool tips
- Any information about sponsors, or special guests
- Confirming or Adding Mentor Responsibilities
- Confirming any additional roles or activities for the Mentor. Example, In the party room: they might volunteer to lead an icebreaker, or later on in the workshop lead a movement break. In main room: they may help Instructor monitor the chat, and in breakout rooms they will interact with learners, answer questions, or support learners that are struggling.
